Loreal permanent hair color?

I have always used this brand of dye and last night I bought a medium brown color....my natural color...I wanted to do my entire head to get rid of the sunbleached ends that are growing out. So I follow the instructions like always and am 100% used to this brand/product/procedure....well, my hair is now a coppery, orange, redish color FROM A BOX OF BROWN DYE!!!! I have NOT dyed my hair in YEARS, but have always used this same brand/type of dye...NEVER had a problem and NOW I do?!

Does anyone know WHY a box of BROWN dye would make my hair orangeish red....ICKY!!!

My Mom also bought a brown dye and it made her hair BLACK from the SAME brand of dye

HOW do I FIX this and WHAT should I TRUST to get my hair BACK to BROWN??

Frustrated and annoyed

Thanks!

You need to make sure the color says ASH brown,

Ash cuts the red out.

I use this product also and if they don't have my color in stock that says ASH, I have to go somewhere else.

I feel for you, but it has to contain the word ASH Blonde, Ash Medium Brown, Ash Brown, Light Ash Brown. It will always say this. If it doesn't you will get what you have now...

If you have bleached hair color then the two might have inner mixed and created that color. The best thing to do if you want to go back to your original is pay a proffesional. That way if its screwed up, they will fix it and return your money. Box hair dyes are never guarenteed no matter how many times they work, it only takes once to not work.

it's always hard to know exactly what your hair is going to look like after you dye it without doing one of those strand tests. i haven't ever done a strand test so i'd be a hypocrite to tell you you should have done one first. i don't know what kind of loreal hair color you use, but i always use the semi-permanent color by natural instincts. it doesn't have ammonia in it so there is not really anything all that permanent in the color-it usually fades away/washes away in 28 days or so.

if you want to get rid of the orange/reddish tone, you will want to use a daily cleansing shampoo for atleast a couple of days and shampoo your head 2 or 3 times while you're in the shower. that will help to take some of the unwanted color away. when you got the box of brown dye do you remember what the shade was called? if it has "warm" or "honey" or words like that in the color name, then it usually has hints of copper which usually turn out orange or red in your hair. instead, when you go to buy a new box (get natural instincts) you can look on the side of the box and it will show you if it's a "cool" "neutral" or "warm" shade. There is a really dark brown that's called Clove which is a cool shade that can take away the brassiness and also one called Suede I think that is lighter (maybe box 14 I'm not sure)but still helps to take away the orange/red undertones.

Hope this helps, I know how frustrating coloring your hair and having it turn out badly feels. Ah, the things we go through as girls ;)

Go to a hairdresser the reason it is unpredictable is because a very high level of peroxide is used in these box colours, go to a hairdresser fixing it yourself may be worse and more expensive than going to the hairdresser in the first place.

It will also dry your hair out way to much to redo it yourself

Good luck
