If i dye my hair using LOREAL FERIA as an all over color, can i get highlights at salon over it in 3

becuase ive heard from people that feria is a metallic dye i guess and you cannot put any dyes over it???i dont know if this is true

if i dye my hair a darkish brown with feria can i get highlights from my salon within 3-6 weeks of coloring it?

ok, some salons would do it anyway, it just depends. i think the ones that reject you don't want to waste more dye because they're afraid it won't take. i'm not sure if it will exactly, because that always depends on your hair situation. but if you do it, the color on top will be like a semipermanent.

i did it anyway though, because i got tired of my bright auburn brown color, so i went back black, and now, 3 weeks later, the black still washes out and you can see a little of the other color. it makes my hair shiny black though which i like.

i used that feria too. i'm not sure what it would be like if you were to be going lighter. just try it, and tell them you got it dyed by another salon, so they won't refuse to do it. it's not like it will harm your hair, it's just they would rather not waste time and money if it won't work on you, ya know? just act clueless, because they HAVE to do it til it works or they don't get paid. hope that helps =)

you can get dye over it after 3-4 days after doing the all over color.

No, it would be overprocessing. Why not skip the Feria and use a colour mousse that washes out by either Clairol or L'oreal?

No, dont get highlights after using feria....

Feria is a mettalic dye yes. most hairdyes that you buy at supermarkets and chemists etc. contain different chemical compound than salon dyes, yes its more expensive to get your hair done at a salon but your hair looks better they do a better job and if you are doing it regulary with salon dyes the condition of hair doesn't really change but those DIY colours really stuff up your hair.

Trust me I am a hairdresser

Most hair colors that you buy in the store are NOT metallic dyes. My suggestion (since I don't use store brands) is to call the company and ask them. I've had a lot of clients that have colored their hair at home and have wanted me to put highlights in it. Their hair is always fine. I don't suggest doing that because it's easier for the hairstylist to just do everything at once. Also, a hairstylist always wants to know exactly what colors are in your hair and most stylists don't use store brands, so some will feel uncomfortable. If I was you, I'd wait until you see your stylist and let them do it all at once. It really isn't that much more expensive. I usually charge $80 for highlights and between $85-$100 for color and highlights. It's really a safer bet in the long run. Your stylist can match the brown color that you're wanting and use a better product.

PLEASE don't lie to your stylist. It could make a difference between leaving with beautiful hair and leaving with screwed up, melted hair. I don't think it's right to lie, because, as a stylist myself, I don't want to waste my time AND money trying to get someone's hair to do something that it cannot do. I wouldn't lie because I would hate to see someone worrying because my hair melted off when it was really my fault. Most of the time, you are asked to sign a paper saying that the salon will not be held liable for hair damage if you lied about what products are in your hair. Enough said...
